Fuel Truck Drivers, Stay Safe!
July is Fuel Safety Awareness Month, and we have some important tips for fuel truck drivers.
During fuel drops:
- Strictly manage static electricity and ignition control by bonding and grounding; and turning off the engine, refraining from smoking, and avoiding use of cell phones and electronic devices during fueling.
- Adhere to Department of Transportation (DOT) hazardous materials (Hazmat) regulations.
- Constantly monitor the valves and hoses during pumping to avoid catastrophic overfills.
- Prevent cross-contamination during drops.
- Wear mandated Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
Before and after fuel drops
- Execute rigorous pre-trip inspections.
- Brake, accelerate, and turn smoothly. Partially filled tanks are exceptionally dangerous as sloshing fuel pushes the truck, causing severe balance and rollover risks.
- Avoid distracted driving; a rollover or crash can affect entire communities.
- Protect yourself against falls. Climbing on top of tankers to open hatches or inspect compartments is a slip-and-fall hazard.
At Truck Service of Virginia, we specialize in sales and service of refined fuel tank wagons and propane tanker trucks.
Refined fuel tank wagons: We work with top tank builders such as Boston Steel and Trans-Tech and offer tank trucks, tank wagons and tank trailers with the cab, chassis and tank size and style you prefer.
Propane tanker trucks: The Stellar Propane and LP Gas service trucks make it easy for a single individual to transport, load, and unload gas cylinders without a trailer or additional setting equipment, and can haul one 1,000-gallon or two 500-gallon propane tanks plus all the accessories to install and service the tanks, with radio remote controlled cranes.
