Everyone needs to get a full night's sleep (7 to 9 hours), but in the case of long-haul truck drivers, the consequences can be much more severe. As a truck driver, you can spend extended periods of time on the road in order to meet delivery schedules.
If you don't stop and receive a good night's sleep, you are increasing the risk of an accident. That's why we put together a list of tips to help our community of drivers stay safe and alert on the road with a full night's sleep.
Before bedtime you should avoid...
- Heavy or spicy meals
- Liquids, especially alcohol
- Caffeine
- Nicotine and other stimulants
- Light exposure from electronics
Prepare for your bedtime by...
- Keeping your cab or bedroom cool
- Blocking out light and noise
- Following a routine
- Brush your teeth
- Wash your face
- Get dressed for bed
- Going for a light walk or stretching
