Thank You for Your Service
May is Military Appreciation Month, and we’d like to thank our team members, clients, and all the truckers out there who have served in the armed forces.
Did you know that, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, approximately 10% of professional truck drivers in the United States are military veterans, and some estimates suggest up to 1 in 4 veterans work in the trucking industry. With an estimated 3 to 3.5 million professional truck drivers in the country, this represents roughly 300,000 to 350,000 veterans working behind the wheel.
That’s a significant amount, as the representation of veterans in the trucking industry is double the rate of veterans in other industries.
Veterans and Trucking: A Great Combination
-
Trucking companies actively recruit veterans, offering them stable, well-paying careers for those transitioning from military service. Veterans are highly sought after due to their experience in safety, discipline, and their ability to meet demanding schedules and operate independently.
-
Many veteran truck drivers also find the camaraderie of the job similar to that of military life.
-
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) proudly supports America’s Armed Forces and is committed to assisting service members and veterans in transitioning to civilian transportation careers. Several FMCSA programs make it easier, quicker, and less expensive for experienced military drivers to obtain a commercial driver’s license.
Truck Service of Virginia honors the service, sacrifices, and contributions of current armed forces members, veterans, and their families.
