Safe Summer Trucking Tips for Your Drivers

- 8:59 am - May 9th, 2022

Summer will be here before you know it! As a local truck fleet operator, your drivers will be on the road for extended periods of time. This means driving day after day, dealing with the heat, humidity and more.

Keep them safe by sharing these tips!

Stay Hydrated

When busy focusing on driving and working, it’s easy to forget about something as simple as drinking enough water. That might be tolerable in winter, but on a hot summer day? Keeping up with hydration is a must. For both the safety of your drivers and others on the road!

Use Sunscreen

You and your drivers might be surprised by how hard the sun beats down on someone – even if they’re in the cab of a truck. Then again, if they’ve been driving for a long time they might be well aware of it. Either way, remind them to apply sunscreen throughout the day!

Know Your Truck

Heat has a way of affecting things in different ways. A truck’s brakes and tires can erode more quickly during periods of exceptionally high heat. Keeping an eye on everything and keeping up with maintenance are a must.

Watch the Weather

We’ve focused primarily on heat so far, but that’s not the only inclement weather that can spell trouble for drivers. Severe thunderstorms, as an example, are common during the summer season. This can lead to roads becoming slick or flooded. Tornadoes and high winds also pose a threat to many truck drivers. Remind your drivers that sometimes it’s best to pull over and wait for these moments to pass!
