How Truckers Can Give Back During the Holidays

- 2:22 pm - November 26th, 2025

The trucking industry isn’t just about making sure things get from Point A to Point B -- it’s also about making a difference in the world.

Many truck drivers have experienced what it’s like to be away from home in an unfamiliar town or city during the holiday season. There’s not much to do and many places are closed.

However, there are plenty of ways truckers can add cheer to their holidays – by volunteering.

Even if your truck route is close to home, you can still experience the joy of giving this time of year. Here are five ways you can “go the extra mile” by giving back:

  1. Donate to food drives: When stopping for fuel or supplies, you can purchase and donate non-perishable food items to local food banks or pantries.

  2. Volunteer at local charities: When your route includes a stopover, you can use your off-hours to volunteer at soup kitchens or shelters, which are often in need of extra help during the holidays.

  3. Participate in community events: Many communities have local holiday parades, charity events, or school functions that need participation. You can lend your skills or simply drive your truck in a local parade to support their community.

  4. Organize a company drive: Trucking companies can organize their own donation drives for toys, food, or clothing to be collected from employees and distributed to those in need.

  5. Deliver needed goods: If your route includes a stop near a charity or organization, you can offer to deliver needed goods, such as toys for a toy drive or food boxes for a food pantry.
